Getting The Best Plush Bears Is A Must

By Dorothea Garner

Plush bears refer to soft toys that are stuffed with soft cotton and made from faux fur or soft fabric. These teddies have been around for hundreds of years and the first know American bear was made by Morric Michtom who fashioned it after President Roosevelt who was nicknamed "Teddy". Back then the only other known manufacturer of these toys was a firm call Steiff in Germany.

The other famous bear maker is the Steiff Company that was started in the early 1900s. Trademarked with a gold button stitched onto the ear which holds a yellow label with red writing. These labeled teddies are usually from a limited edition and signifies the authenticity of the bear as a hand crafted Steiff product.

But there are those that have a lasting love for a childhood bear that may have been a gift from a long past relative. It is these sentimental emotions that keep parents purchasing these cuddly toys. In previous years it was made to look like a real bear with a long snout and protruding eyes, but the features were changed to make it more appealing and some are even dressed up as a gift for Valentine or Christmas.

Commercially made bears are mainly aimed at children and need to meet a strict safety standard. Eyes must be securely fastened and all parts may not pose a threat of chocking hazard for smaller children. Similarly clear labels must be attached with the fabric used as kids could be allergic to certain materials.

Hand stitched bear can still be made to order. Besides it being a once off teddy, clients will be able to choose between Mohair, Alpaca coats, Knitted or Crocheted bears as well. The luxuriousness of the natural materials makes these special teddies even softer. Naturally the prices charge for such an item will be quite high but individualism is guaranteed.

Stores where kids can go build a teddy have become the latest attraction over the last few years. Its success lies in the fact that each child makes the choice from the body type all the way through to how much and what type of filling is wanted. Birth certificates are printed and this personalizes the toy even further, this enterprise also offers clothes and other accessories which can be chosen from further encouraging an attachment to the toy.

Of course as per every trend in these times there are also teddy bears made from recycled products. These "green" items come hand in hand with special books giving tips on how to save the environment. Endangered species are also created as a soft toy and all proceeds from the sales go directly toward saving that specific animal.

These treasured toys may have changed except in the area of popularity. Still an important part of any family, Plush bears can even be found in museums. If in possession of an antique bear one can have it appraised via a reputable website.
